Imagine a brand new player trying to find a lot of wrecks or thermal vents again, without beacons, withoug a Compass, and without your wiki knowledge of the F1 button for coordinates. Off in the wild world of experimental, of later they are turning basic items like the laser cutter and beacons into fragments. They will probably make the laser cutter capable of opening those hatches, when they are ready to fully release the other bases.
